Yesterday was another rainy, cold day here in SoCal so for the most part David and I stayed in doors and under the warm covers. We did venture out last night to hang out with our dear friend Angie and her beautiful daughter Kendall who we hadn’t seen in a few weeks. Angie and I had been talking about hanging out for a while so last night was the perfect opportunity.

We made our way to Sherman Oaks, CA to meet up with Ange and Kendall at The Cheesecake Factory for a bite to eat. Kendall snapped this amazingly cool photo of me on her mom’s iPhone so I thought I would share it with all y’all:

It’s a shame that it was so wet and cold yesterday because we didn’t get much chance to hang out as much as we would’ve liked. It was really great getting to catch up with Angie … I think we are planning on another hang out session later this week. As a former DJ, Angie has got a LOT of vinyl records so we are planning a record party at my place. And speaking of … my new record player has been getting a lot of use in the past few days … I managed to pick up a bunch of really amazing records … including Mantaray by Siouxsie Sioux:

I’m not sure how long this love for vinyl phase will last but I hope for a long time. One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to slow down and appreciate music more, on vinyl as much as possible. I haven’t really spent any real time getting to know albums like I used to. In this age of downloading tracks in seconds and then moving on to the next batch of songs, I have been very lax in getting to know albums. I can’t even tell you the last time I took the time to learn the lyrics of an entire album. Slowing down with vinyl will hopefully help me get back into the practice of appreciating music again.

I am happy to report that for the first time ever, David and I will be spending Xmas together. Yes, in the almost 5 years that we have been together, we have never been able to spend Xmas together because one or both of us jetted off across the country to be with our parents. Thru a series of circumstances, David decided to stay here in LA with me … and we are very much looking forward to spending our first Xmas together.

We spent part of our evening yesterday picking out decorations for the tiny little Xmas tree we bought. My hope is that we will buy special new ornaments for our tree as the years progress and as our trees get larger. To be honest, we aren’t planning anything lavish for our Xmas night together … but we are looking forward to spending some time celebrating the season as a couple ;)

Last night, I made my way out to the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA to see the amazing trip hop artist Tricky in concert:

I’ve been a fan of Tricky for years and have seen him a few times before in concert. He did not disappoint. His gravelly voice was in fine form last night and the sold out house just loved every second he was on stage. Unfortch, he decided to keep the lights down real low so I wasn’t able to snap any photos … but the show was fantastic. Last night’s concert was my last show of 2010 … not a bad way to end a year of great shows, let me tell you.

Today … more Xmas prep … I wanna run out and get some stockings and candy canes … you know, the usual. I hope your Xmas prep is going well … since it’s the night before the night before Xmas, we are all running out of time ;)

Originally hailing from England, David Bowie is one of the most successful musicians of all time. Over the course of his highly successful career, he has transitioned from being a folksy singer-songwriter in the late 60s to becoming a gender-bending glam rock cult figure in the 70s to blossoming into dance-hall hit producer in the 80s to finally becoming an established and respected elder musician in the 90s and the 00s. The man who once covered died his long hair Kool-Aid orange and painted his body in bright neon colors can now pack stadiums full of suburbanites around the world, from Europe to North and South America. It can seem like an impossible task, trying to keep up with his entire career. You could go broke just trying to buy half of his albums! But luckily, with a decent wireless Internet connection, you can keep up with Bowie without breaking the bank.
